The Doctor Who crew have been out filming on location again this week, and despite having already shot two adventures with the new companion, this time it’s for her debut adventure, the Christmas special.
So far he has been dressed in a stylish new purple-colours cashmere frock coat; and then a fetching three-piece brown tartan number.

This time it’s the weirdest one yet, making him look like the Mad Hatter from Alice In Wonderland.
The smoking jacket is reminiscent of something Jon Pertwee would have worn, and that coupled with a frock coat of the same cut (but not style) as Peter Davison, has me wondering if these are a hinted reference to the long history of Doctor Who as it enters its 50th anniversary.
As ever with The Doctor - TIME WILL TELL!

You are right, now that the Mad Hatter has arrived. It really is getting silly. Nobody will be able to keep up with all these costumes...
ReplyDeleteI'm sure in the context of the episode it will all make sense - but he's becoming something of a clothes horse!
DeleteWhy wont you reveal it? Bit selfish... Seeing as you've already bought some just tell us :/
Deleteit doesn't take much to realise it's another W Bill fabric - but it retails at over £330 a metre!!!
DeleteYou never know, the next christmas special could be based around Alice in Wonderland as you said because the last special was based around another legendary novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Also, the the doctor is the MAD man in a box!?...
ReplyDeleteI do hope you are not right - but you have a point.
DeleteAfter A Christmas Carol, then The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe - it smacks of running out of ideas to use Alice In Wonderland :(
Before we know it we''l have Doctor Who stories like Wind in the Willows and The Wizard of Oz. The Doctor's 11th regeneration - Suicide!
Deleteso where is the frock coat's fabric from?
ReplyDeleteThat would be telling!
DeletePlease tell I've gone to every single website but can't find it anywhere
ReplyDeleteWhilst complimenting the individual stories settings, and also perhaps an indication The Doctor want to be too identifiable since his faked death.
ReplyDeleteIt's surely becoming very clear there are some lovely costume nods to old incarnations this year. The Davison, coat, the monocle, the brocade on the front of the (pictured) coat.. That hat, whilst obviously very different in style to the Stovepipe, evokes a strong memory of Troughton skulking through the mists of Vulcan...
Also love the cheeky inclusion of a bowler in Diana Riggs episode.. Granted it fits the period but do you really think Moffat and Gatiss hadn't purposely included. The episode even references one of Diana's favourite Avenger episodes...
What on earth is silly about it? I don't wear the same clothes every day, why should the Doctor?
ReplyDeleteMy spin on this was that we had only just seen the purple frock coat before seeing the brown tartan number - and now this!
DeleteAs a costume maker it makes me frantically busy trying to keep up.
