All it shows is the back, but from what it shows it looks pretty good.
If I was to be picky the cuffs aren't vented and the back split is too high, but the main hurdle - the fabric - looks like a good match to the original.
It is certainly strides ahead of the amateur effort being offered from China, and out classes the cheap (but sold dear) choice of material from Magnoli Clothiers.
We await a view of the front, so I reserve judgement until that is revealed. But in the meantime, looking good!
Hey Steve, for those of us that buy the coat, would you be able to fix the minor issues with it?
ReplyDeleteDifficult.
DeleteDepending on the way a coat is cut will govern if the changes can be made.
The fabric is missing to be able to make a true vented cuff.
It would be difficult to lover the back split, which let's face it is on the back and less visible.
The flare of the skirt is okay, but I can see from the picture shown it skimps on the pattern allowing it to really give the volume needed.
All of these go right back to the cutting of thee cloth, and can't be made right after the fact.
All that said, the overall shape and look is pretty darn good - jus don't let anyone come too close!
the coat is not made of cashmere and ther is a picture of someone whereing the coat on there facebook page can not see much of the front as there sat on the floor but can see a bit of the side
ReplyDeleteOn Facebook Abbyshot has just revealed the coat is a 20% cashmere wool blend, so this is definitely shaping up to be the very best option and it's for less money than Magnoli's version too!
ReplyDeleteThe coat is released now. 3 pictures and available for preorders. What do you think about the look of it?
ReplyDeleteThe silhouette is good, though some of the basics to making genuine frock coat are missed. The fabric is actually VERY good.
DeleteNot bad at all for the money.
Abbyshot has this available for pre-order now. But only in pre-set sizes, none of which fit me. Shame.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the smaller sizes are really spread out, it leaves a lot of people unable to get it.
DeleteStill, if the actual fabric and such turns out to be as good as it looks, it'd be worth it to get it re tailored.
Even with that added price, it's still a fraction of the cost of the real coat, because of the fabric
True, it would be worth getting re-tailored. My problem is with the length, though, and I don't think even the largest size coat is as long as I would want.
DeleteOn another note, I've seen the pictures of Magnoli's replica now and confirmed for myself what Steve (and probably others) already knew. It's not really worth considering, unfortunately.
Just a follow up as I eventually wound up ordering this coat. The sizing turns out not to be as much of an issue for me as I thought. The pictures on AbbyShot's site are accurate to the actual product, and while it may not be 100% screen accurate, the average person is not likely to notice. A super nice coat. I'm very happy with it.
DeleteYou must rember this is just a picture of the coat and its most likely a prototype of the intended product and being a picture means you can't see the whole thing so
ReplyDeletethe cuffs might be vented on the finished product. And because its a
picture the back vent might be
correct. I do agree with you on the chineese versions there not accurate, i know this becouse i have a swatch of the purple cashmere and I am big on accuracy probley more than you, but if its the best you can do or all you can get at the current time it works
I'm eager to see how these turn out. I was a little let down with their fabric choice with the 10th Doctor coat. The lack of buttons on this coat kind of takes away from it's function.
ReplyDeleteIs abbyshots Tweed jacket worth the $330?
ReplyDeleteI'm a little skeptical of buying Abbyshot's Coat. But it seems as if they are the only ones who have done a damn near fine job of creating this coat. Do you think this coat is worth $430 for Cosplay Steve? I honestly am probably going to buy this, but advice from an experienced tailor like you would be most greatful. :)
